HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — With the departure of Southern Miss head football coach Todd Monken, the Golden Eagles are looking to hire a new coach that will keep the program on a winning track.
WDAM-TV (http://bit.ly/23rgpOC ) reports USM immediately began a nationwide search to fill the position after Monken announced his resignation Sunday to accept the offensive coordinator position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Southern Miss officials say time is of the essence and they hope to have the position filled by week’s end.
Monken, who coached the Golden Eagles for the past three seasons, led them to a C-USA West division championship in 2015 and a 9-5 record. The team was 0-12 the year before his arrival.
