WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) — Utah authorities say they have arrested 10 teenagers after a riot at a youth treatment facility.
West Jordan Police Sgt. Joe Monson says staffers at the Copper Hills Youth Center say several patients protested the facility’s rules Sunday evening and began throwing items at them.
Monson says the teens tried to punch, kick, bite and scratch police officers, and one was arrested for trying to grab an officer’s Taser.
He says those arrested were ages 13 to 17. They were booked into Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention for investigation of charges including rioting, assaulting an officer and attempting to disarm an officer.
Monson says no one was seriously injured.
Copper Hills is a private residential drug and behavioral dysfunction treatment center. Employees did not return calls from KUTV-TV.
