NEW INFORMATION: Coroner confirms Louisiana man shot by Petal officer died of multiple gun shot wounds.
“The preliminary autopsy report does not include where or how many times Davis was shot,” said Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict.
Benedict says his body is released and waiting for funeral home in Louisiana to schedule date and time to pick up and transport body to LaPlace, Louisiana.
Officials have not released the officers name but was placed on paid administrative leave.

UPDATE: The man who died in an officer-involved shooting in Petal has been identified.
Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict says 34-year-old, Marc Brandon Davis of LaPlace, Louisiana, died from his injuries.
PETAL, Miss. (WHLT) — One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Petal, authorities said.
Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict said a man died from gunshot wounds.
According to Mississippi Department of Public Safety Communication Director Warren Strain, a Petal police officer responded to a crash around 10:30 a.m. near the Evelyn Gandy Parkway and Leeville Road.
Strain said there was an altercation and shots were fired. One person who was involved in the wreck died, he said.
Coroner Benedict said the body was being sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing.
