Ex-high school basketball coach sentenced to 30 years for molesting student

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) – A former high school coach will serve 30 years in prison after being found guilty of molesting a student.

News outlets report a jury convicted Danielle DeWitt on two counts of unlawful touching of a child for lustful purposes. She was found not guilty of two counts of sexual battery.

A judge sentenced her Monday to 15 years in prison for each count, to be served consecutively. It’s the maximum sentence allowed by law.

DeWitt was accused of having had a sexual relationship with one of her female players when she was an assistant basketball coach at Hancock High between December 2009 and July 2010.

She’ll have to serve every day of the 30-year sentence without the possibility of early release. She’ll also have to register as a sex offender.
