Proposed budget cuts for Biloxi, Mississippi police, fire departments

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – Biloxi Councilman Kenny Glavan says next year’s city budget will be tight. But the city council and the public don’t know how much money the city has in the bank or what it will cost to run Biloxi in the next fiscal year.

Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich told council members Monday he will have answers to those questions at the city’s next budget workshop meeting on Thursday.

The Sun Herald reports ( the proposed fire and police budgets will be cut by a total of about $900,000, with the largest chunk coming from administration.

Councilwoman Dixie Newman asked Fire Chief Joe Boney if he has enough money to continue to protect the community.

Boney says the department will enough funds to provide the services.
