PRENTISS, Miss. (WJTV) — A Prentiss man is behind bars after police accuse him of beating his 4-year-old son to death.
Police charged Belton Sims with the murder of his son Messiah Griffith.
According to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff, Sims picked up the child from his great-grandmother’s house and took him back to his home. They said Sims then allegedly assaulted the child. Sims took Messiah to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Messiah’s family is asking for prayers from the community.
“It’s not his character for this to have happened,” Abbygail Deloach said, Messiah’s great aunt. “Now the only thing we’re really asking for cause both of the families are hurting. This is a sad situation for both families and we’re just wanting and asking that people just pray for both families and just know that this is not his character.”
Police did not provide details on what sparked the alleged assault. Sims was given no bond during his initial court appearance.
