Storm damage reported in 19 Mississippi counties

JACKSON, Miss. (WHLT) — The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said they have received reports of storm damage from 19 counties.

Severe weather moved through the state Monday afternoon.

MEMA said minor injuries were reported in Lincoln County.

The National Weather Service survey teams will go out in the affected areas to determine the number and strength of tornadoes that hit the state.

Below is a list of counties reporting damage:

  • Amite: Homes and agricultural structures damaged trees down and power outages.
  • Claiborne: Trees down and power outages.
  • Clarke: Numerous trees down.
  • Copiah: Trees and power outages.
  • Covington: Home damaged, trees down.
  • Forrest: Trees down and power outages.
  • Franklin: Mobile home destroyed, another home damaged, trees down and power outages.
  • Hinds: Trees down and power outages.
  • Jasper: Home damaged, trees and power lines down.
  • Jefferson: Trees down and power outages.
  • Jones: Homes damaged by falling limbs, trees and power lines down.
  • Leake: Homes and agricultural buildings damaged, numerous trees down.
  • Lauderdale: Mobile home damaged, trees down and power outages.
  • Lincoln: Mobile home destroyed with minor injuries near Loyd Star. Wesson High School damaged, school was in session but no injuries reported, trees and power lines down.
  • Newton: Trees down and power outages.
  • Simpson: Trees down and power outages.
  • Smith: One home and one business destroyed, One home and business damaged, trees and power lines down near Sylvarena.
  • Walthall: One home and mobile home destroyed other homes and a church damaged. Trees and powerlines down.
  • Winston: Trees and power lines down.

Damage assessments are ongoing.
