HATTIESBURG, Miss – Local Emergency Management Directors are preparing shelters for those who need a safe place during the storm.
According to Forrest County EMA Director Glen Moore, the Forrest County Community Shelter will open at 7 p.m. for anyone that lives in a mobile home or trailer. The storm shelter, located at 946 Sullivan Drive, is next to the Forrest County Multipurpose Center.
Jones County EMA Director Marda Tullos says a storm shelter will open for the community beginning at 7:30 p.m. until the duration of the storm. The shelter is located at 1425 Ellisville Boulevard in Laurel.
EMA Director of Lamar County James Smith says, “They have a shelter ready to open for anyone interested. The first call they get from anyone seeking assistant;they will open it.” The storm shelter in Lamar County is located on Central Industrial Row in Purvis and could open as early as 7 p.m.
Moore, Tullos, and Smith are encouraging residents that live in mobile homes or trailers to seek shelter during the expected severe weather.
The Red Cross will provide cots, blankets and light snacks at all locations.
