Late USM professor to be honored by university

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – A memorial service for Dr. Michael Salda, professor of English at The University of Southern Mississippi, will be held Friday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. in Danforth Chapel on the Hattiesburg campus.

Salda, a member of the University’s Department of English since 1991, died Oct. 16 in Hattiesburg. He was 57.

A native of Nebraska, Dr. Salda held bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Chicago. An expert in Arthurian and Medieval literature, he published Arthurian Animation: A Study of Cartoon Camelots on Film and Television. He was known for his use of technology in the classroom, pioneering the use of podcasts and online classes.

The Salda family requests memorials to Dr. Salda be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (www.nationalmssociety.org). For more information, contact the Southern Miss Department of English at 601.266.4320.
