Hattiesburg, Miss. – Tuesday night, the family of Officer Benjamin Deen, one of two officers killed in a shooting, received a special gift honoring his life.
Nearly one month ago, local gun enthusiast, Robbie Baggett held a raffle to raise money for the families of fallen officers Benjamin Deen.
The prize in that raffle was a commemorative pistol.
We’re told by the raffle winner, family members of Officer Deen wanted to win that raffle, so they bought several chances. However, they lost.
Buddy Johnson, a member of Lacy Kelly VFW Post 3036 in Hattiesburg, was the winner. Johnson tells us when he heard that the family wanted the pistol, he decided he’d give it to them.
“I would love to have had a gun like that myself, but I think it means so much to them,” Johnson said.
Tuesday night, at the VFW post, he presented the pistol to Mary Ellen & Dan Dean.
Several members of the Hattiesburg Police Department were on hand for the special presentation.
“I know that this will mean an awful lot to them and help with the closure of the incident that happened,” Johnson said.
Officer Benjamin Deen and Officer Liquori Tate where killed in Hattiesburg during a traffic stop in May.
