LAUREL, Miss – According to the City of Laurel’s website, attaching signs to public property is a violation.
Mayor Johnny Magee is alerting citizens of Laurel that code enforcement officers will be on the lookout for violations of the city’s garage/yard sale sign regulations.
Effective immediately, violators of the sign ordinance could face a $100 citation. Officials said garage/yard sale sign regulations are the same in residential and commercial districts.
It is illegal for yard signs to be attached to a tree, utility pole, traffic sign, fence and street marker. The press release states that “yard signs cannot be located on public property, including parks, and must be removed within 48 hours after the end of the sale. Ground-mounted signs are not to exceed eleven by seventeen inches (11″x17″) in size.”
