LAUREL, Miss. (WHLT) – On Saturday, September 26th, law enforcement agencies across the Pine Belt participated in Drug Take Back Day.
The event provided the public with an opportunity to prevent prescription drug abuse.
Citizens were asked to take expired and unwanted prescription drugs to their local police departments for disposal.
The Laurel Police Department reports collecting over 62 pounds of pills and other prescription drugs.
Laurel PD says Saturday was the fourth time they held a Drug Take Back Day event, and this was their most successful one yet.
The department has collected over 160 pounds to date.
LPD would like to thank the citizens who contributed to making the event a success.
Hattiesburg Police Department also hosted a Drug Take Back event.
According to the department, they collected almost 100 pounds of prescription drugs.
