Update: According to Jefferson Davis County Investigator John Wayne Tolar, Arthur Martin bonded out of jail Thursday afternoon.
JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) — A Jefferson Davis County school teacher was arrested and charged with photographing and filming children under the age of 16.
Jefferson Davis County Investigator John Wayne Tolar confirms the sheriff’s department is investigating a case against Arthur Martin, 46, of Hattiesburg. Tolar says Martin is a new 5th grade teacher at J.E. Johnson Elementary.
Jefferson Davis County School Superintendent Will Russell issued a statement Thursday saying that a camera was found in one of the restrooms on Wednesday; school officials reported it to authorities.
Tolar says the sheriff’ department was called out to J.E. Johnson Elementary around 12:26 p.m. He said through investigation they determined that the camera belonged to an employee at the school.
According to the statement released by Superintendent Russell, Martin has since been fired.
Martin appeared in court Thursday afternoon. His bond was set at $150, 000.
School officials said no students were injured or harmed from the incident.
