Woman charged in fatal Laurel crash; bond set at $50,000

LAUREL, MS (WHLT) – One person has been charged in a fatal accident in Laurel.

Captain Tommy Cox with the Laurel Police Department says, around 8:45 pm on September 18, 2015, police responded to a single vehicle accident on I-59, south of Chantilly Street.

A 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix was flipped over with 4 people inside car. Eugene Collins was pronounced dead on the scene. He was reportedly ejected from the car and was found underneath the vehicle when police arrived on scene.

Forty-two-year-old Jessie Mae Windham of Laurel was identified as the driver. She was taken into custody and faces 1 count of felony DUI causing death of another.

The suspect refused to do a breathalyzer test at the scene and was taken into custody. She later admitted to drinking multiple beers as early as 15 minutes before operating the car.

Her bond was set at $50,000.
