BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – Customers can decide between Oct. 12 and Oct. 30 if they want a check from Mississippi Power or if they want their refund applied to their bill.
The refunds are for the rate increase Mississippi Power customers were charged to help pay for the construction of the Kemper County energy facility.
Jeff Shephard, a spokesman for Mississippi Power, tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1Lgi8i6) the average residential refund will be $650.
Shephard says the total amount of refunds to Mississippi Power’s 340,000 current and former residential, commercial and industrial accounts is about $377 million.
On Aug. 6 the state Public Service Commission gave Mississippi Power 120 days to complete refund process.
The company is increasing its customer service staff to handle the calls.
