USM student hit by car on Hardy Street

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) — A University of Southern Mississippi female student is recovering after being hit by a car Friday.

Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler said they received a call around 9:40 a.m. that a pedestrian was hit near Hardy Street and 31st Avenue.

The driver of the car did stop after the accident; charges have not been filed, Lt. Traxler said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.  Traxler said student did have the right of way.

The school issued this statement about the accident:

“The injured party is a female student at Southern Miss. She was in the crosswalk at the intersection of Hardy Street and 31st Avenue, coming from a parking lot where Elam Arms once stood toward campus when she was hit by a car. She was transported to Forrest General Hospital and treated for minor injuries.”
