HATTIESBURG, MS (WHLT) – Chief Anthony Parker is wrapping up his first week as head of the Hattiesburg Police Department. It was standing room only as the new top cop received his badge on Monday.
Chief Parker joins the Hub City police force with over 30 years of law enforcement experience.
“I’m just so happy and appreciative of them putting their confidence in me,” Parker said.
A rundown of his resume’ shows he is a 1979 graduate of Southern Miss, served 19 years as a Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper, 8 years with MBI and 5 years moving up the ladder in Crystal Springs to Chief of Police.
“We feel that he is going to be a great asset to us and be able to lead us in the direction that the city has to go,” Lt. Jon Traxler said.
“His sincerity and his commitment to whatever community he’s in…I found out that that’s just not a show when I talked to the Mayor of Crystal Springs and some of the other people,” Mayor Johnny DuPree said.
During his swearing in speech, Parker commended HPD for it’s strength given the recent loss of 2 officers.
“I hope to come here and make sure the department is consistent in whatever we do, treat the public fairly and also serve. Service is a word that has been forgotten in police work. I want to make sure we serve the department in a respectful manner and still do our job,” Parker said.
