HATTIESBURG, Miss – A family in the Shady Grove community of North Jones County lost their home to a fire Saturday night.
According to the Jones County Fire Service, around 9 p.m., a structure fire was reported on Forest Drive, in North Laurel. It was quickly determined that the burning home was located on Sherwood Drive. The Shady Grove and Sharon
Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to assist the Laurel Fire Department.
Upon the firefighters arrival, the home was found fully engulfed in flames. The departments battled the fire for over three hours.
Several firefighters became over heated and had to go through rehabilitation. Once the firemen were cleared by Emergency Medical Responders, they continued their attempt to save the home.
The owners, Larry and Heather Gendusa,weren’t home during the fire.
The Gendusa’s lost everything in the fire except their Dachshund, who disappeared during the fire,but was found the following morning.
The fire remains under investigation by Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
