Perry County Sheriff: Inmate used plastic utensils to escape jail

UPDATE:  Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith said the inmate who escaped the Perry County Jail Tuesday used plastic utensils to break out.

The sheriff  said Jason Mazingo used his utensils from dinner to manipulate the lock on his cell.

Authorities found the stolen Toyota truck Mazingo allegedly used to escape at Paul B. Johnson Park in Forrest County.

They believe he is now in a 2004 white Chevy Envoy with a MS Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks sticker on the sides. The truck has a government tag.

Forrest County officials have now joined the search.

PERRY, COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – The Perry County Sheriff’s Department is looking for an escaped inmate.

They said 37-year-old Jason Mazingo, escaped from the Perry County Jail around 2:00 a.m.

He was initially arrested for multiple counts of residential burglary.

Sheriff’s deputies said they believe he stole a 1985 Toyota pickup, brown or maroon with a Mississippi antique tag T15042.
