JONES COUNTY, MS – An Ellisville man has been arrested for embezzling funds from a softball team that he coached.

According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, charges have been filed against Stephen Wayne McLeod, 41. An official release says “McLeod was being accused of stealing $4,950.00.”

In May 2015, McLeod suggested starting and coaching the team to a group of parents. Allegedly, parents were asked to pay $300 per player for equipment, uniforms, and tournament fees.

Parents began having concerns when the merchandise has not arrived but the money had been collected. They confronted McLeod in June after he told them that merchandise was on the way several times. After a verbal argument took a place between all parties involved, McLeod stopped communication with the parents.

They contacted the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and McLeod was arrested on July 20, 2015. He was charged with Embezzlement. McLeod later admitted in an interview to using some of the money for his personal use. His bond was set at $7,500.
