JACKSON, MS – Nowadays in college athletics, you’re as known for your brand as you are for your play. Today in Hattiesburg, Southern Miss launched its official re-branding with a new logo.
The university held a launch party on campus to celebrate the new look. A company called Rare Design designed it; it’s a company based in Hattiesburg that’s produced logos such as the one for the New Orleans Pelicans.
There’s plenty of new merchandise to be had sporting the new Golden Eagle, which embodies more of the Southern Miss Attitude. Rodney Richardson, who owns Rare Design, said of the new look:
“We said it needed a little more aggressiveness. It needed a little more of that intensity that represents Southern Miss athletics. A little bit of that nasty bunch needs to come back into all that we are doing.”
