FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A few pecks on the keyboard and a few minutes of time is all Forrest County Emergency Management wants from its residents.
“I feel like that’s the quickest, most efficient way for them to get information that they need a timely matter,” EMA Director Glenn Moore said.
The REVERSE 9-1-1 system has been around for a while, but EMA needs people to update their phone numbers.
“Say for instance there’s an explosion at the gas facilities in Petal. We need to do a one mile evacucation from one of the gas facilities. We can go into the computer. The dispatcher has the capability to type in a message and notify everyone by phone or email within that one mile radius,” Moore said.
The SMART 9-1-1 website allows you to enter as much information about your household as you need. From your pet’s name, to whether there’s a disabled person in the household.
“As soon as you make that 9-1-1 call it pops up and she doesn’t have to ask all the questions to get that information from you,” Moore said.
Dispatchers use the information on SMART 9-1-1 only when you make the call. Whereas with REVERSE 9-1-1, dispatchers are contacting you with information.
