Pipeline in Perry County ruptures

PERRY COUNTY, Miss – Authorities responded to a natural gas pipe line burst on McKenzie Road Friday morning.

According to Perry County Sheriff Jimmy Smith, irrigation crews were digging when they made contact with a 12 inch pipe, owned by South Cross Pipeline Company.

The pipe line was quickly cut off at a valve and allowed to slowly bleed out.

Nearby homes were not evacuated. Work crew members were not injured as a result of the rupture.

Responding agencies included; Forrest County Emergency Management, Forrest County Sheriff’s Department, Perry County Emergency Management, and Perry County Sheriff’s Department.

Crews are working to have the gas line restored by this evening.
