Beware of scam claiming to collect donations for slain HPD officers

HATTIESBURG, MS – There is a scam floating around in the aftermath of two HPD officers being killed in the line of duty.

According to a public relations representative for Mayor Johnny DuPree’s office, police dispatch says a resident has reported someone calling asking for donations. The Hattiesburg Police Department is not calling citizens asking for money and account numbers on behalf of slain officers Tate and Deen and their families.

Both men were recently shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop at an apartment complex. Four suspects are in custody. The official information for where and when citizens can make financial donations will be announced announce on May 11, 2015.
