HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Hattiesburg Fire Department has appointed a new Assistant Fire Chief.
Yesterday, Matt Saucier kicked off his first week with big goals for the department.
“We’ve got a lot of improvements to make with the department. We’re going to try to expand our man power.”
Saucier says the department has 12 positions open for firefighters, and they’ll be soon be starting the process to fill those positions.
“A lot of business takes place here, a lot more than I thought it would be to start with…I’m trying to figure out what needs to be done and prioritize.”
He says he’s truly excited to be continuing his career with the department.
Saucier has been with the Hattiesburg Fire Department since 1995.
He has served as a firefighter, driver, engineer, lieutenant and captain.
He replaces Chief Paul Presley, who was promoted when the previous Fire Chief, David Webster, retired.
