LAUREL, Miss. – The opportunity for people who haven’t attended a police academy to become a part of the Laurel Police Force is quickly nearing.
LPD is looking to add new people to it’s list of potential entry-level officers.
Applications for the Civil Service Exam, which is required for anyone not police academy certified, are now available to those interested in law enforcement.
We’re looking for all types of people. We’d love to have some bilingual officers. That’s always in high demand. We need people of good character,” says Captain Tommy Cox.
The exam will be given August 16th.
The last day to pick up an application is August 8th.
Captain Cox says once a person passes the exam there’s a lot more steps before getting to wear the uniform.
“We invite you to come back and take a PT test. If you pass that, I believe you come back with a board interview.”

Applications can be picked up from the human resources office at City Hall.
