HATTIESBURG, Miss. – More than 1000 Hattiesburg area students will start school with new backpacks full of school supplies provided by the Junior Auxiliary (JA) of Hattiesburg.
The Backpack Service Project takes place each summer, serving kindergarten through fifth grade students from 22 Hattiesburg area schools in Forrest and Lamar Counties.
The organization filled backpacks with thousand of school supplies, and delivered them to the schools.
“When we have children that come in to a school that do not have backpacks, we are able to give them these backpacks and they are ready to start the year off fresh,” said Tonya Kay Atkinson, the project’s co-chair.
Funds to support this project are raised by Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg’s annual fundraiser Charity Ball.
