UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI – Pre-construction has begun at Southern Miss for a new College of Nursing.
After eight years of patience the college kicked-off an $8 million campaign at the beginning of the year to assist in funding the project.
Administration says the new building will increase the college’s square-footage by a much needed 135%.
Aside from spacing issues, the current building is also technologically dated for the type of programs the college uses.
“This building was wired electronically from 1975. So we don’t have the technological infrastructure that we need to run our high human fidelity simulators and to use technology the way we need to that’s going to enrich our teaching,” said Dr. Katherine Nugent, the College of Nursing Dean.
An official ground-breaking ceremony will be held in August.
The building is expected to be completed in two years.
